Why the page matters

How a website turns an Ann Arbor search into a call

The median home in Ann Arbor was built in 1971, so much of what you sell is work on a house with a history: a roof somebody patched, a panel that has been added to, a bathroom from another decade. A website that shows those jobs, with the before photo and a line on what you replaced, answers the question a homeowner is asking. Lithium Marketing designs and builds WordPress sites for Ann Arbor service businesses, and the copy is written from your jobs.

The site decides what happens after the click. Only 9.3% of Ann Arbor's housing was built in 2010 or later, so the homes a contractor here works on are mostly older, and the site has to prove you have handled one. Photos, reviews and a call button on every screen do more for that than a stock photo of a smiling technician.

The Ann Arbor market

Houses from different eras on one street

Ann Arbor's neighborhoods run from 19th- and early 20th-century designs to ranch-style houses, and the Old West Side's 19th-century buildings have been preserved virtually intact. A remodeler or a painter who works there can show a job on a house like the customer's, which lands harder than a gallery of new construction from another city.

The commercial side has its own shape: the city's commercial districts are composed mostly of two- to four-story structures, with high-rises only downtown and near Briarwood Mall. If you take commercial work, the site needs a page that names the building types you service and the hours you answer, because the facility manager comparing three contractors is looking for that page, not a residential gallery.

Trades in Washtenaw County

What the county mix means for a homepage

The Washtenaw County chart leads with 152 residential remodelers and 148 landscaping companies, so the work has to be visible before a customer books. That makes the homepage a portfolio: a gallery, a page for each service you sell and photos that show the size of the job.

Plumbing, heating and air-conditioning contractors number 70 in Washtenaw County, and if those calls arrive with something broken, the first screen should be a phone number, the towns you cover and the hours you answer. Washtenaw County has 38 electrical contractors, and an electrician's work can be either an emergency or a planned job, so the page has to say which one it takes.

The build

What happens between kickoff and launch

Nothing is built until you have seen the phone layout, and nothing goes live until the forms and the call links work.

1

Begin with the work you have done

We start from your photos and your service list, and the copy comes out of a call about the jobs you want more of, not a template.

2

Approve the phone layout

Two layouts come to you, one for a phone and one for a desktop, and you check where the call button, the quote form and the job photos sit.

3

Test everything before launch

Forms, phone links and conversion tags get tried on a real handset, and GA4 and call tracking are wired in so a call has a source.

4

Move the site without losing ground

Old addresses are pointed at their new pages, Search Console gets a look around the switch, and you get a private walkthrough for your own edits.

Around Ann Arbor

Websites for the towns within reach

Each city below has a page with that city's housing and search figures, which is the pair that decides whether a second city page on your own site is worth building. Toledo is in Ohio, so read it before you take work across the line. The state page carries the rest.

Before you rebuild the site you have

Still curious?

Call (503) 766-5964 or email [email protected].

How long does a new website take?

Six to nine weeks from kickoff to launch for most service business sites. A bigger build, with dozens of project pages or a page for every city you serve, takes longer and gets its own schedule before work starts. The clock usually runs on your photos and approvals as much as on the build.

What happens to the site if we stop working together?

You take it with you. The domain, the WordPress install, the pages and the photos sit in accounts with your name on them, so leaving costs you the relationship, not the website.

Can you work from the photos we already have?

Usually, yes. Phone photos of finished jobs are enough for most pages, and we tell you which ones to reshoot if a picture is blurred or shows a job you would not want to win again. A few strong before-and-after pairs beat a hundred snapshots.

Can we add pages after launch?

A page can be added later without a rebuild: the site runs on WordPress, so a service page or a city page is a new page, not a new design. Your team can add it, or the optional hosting and maintenance plan covers hosting, daily backups, software and security updates, and basic changes.

How much of our time will the build take?

About three calls: kickoff, a design review and a check before launch, plus email replies on the copy. You send the photos, answer questions about the work and approve the pages, and Lithium writes the rest.
