Tempe PPC, answered
Lithium Marketing manages Google Ads for Tempe service businesses, and the first job is separating the searches that produce work from the ones that only produce clicks. A click on “plumber tempe” averages $56.43 and a click on “pest control tempe” averages $49.45, so tracking goes in before a single bid is raised. Without it, nobody can say which keyword produced a call.
The expensive clicks are not spread evenly. A click on “hvac repair tempe” averages $11.33, on “water damage restoration tempe” $14.89 and on “electrician tempe” $20.64, so a plumber and an HVAC company should not start with the same budget. Opening spend follows your trade's click cost and the value of one booked job.
Click costs in Tempe
Sort the Tempe trades by what a click costs and the order comes out like this: plumbing at $56.43, pest control at $49.45, roofing at $40.29, garage doors at $28.21, landscaping at $24.46, electrical at $20.64, restoration at $14.89 and HVAC at $11.33. The cheap end is where a small budget buys the most clicks; the top of the list is where a weak landing page costs the most.
When we checked “plumber tempe”, the page had no paid ads on it and the map sat above the organic results. One search on one day does not make a rule, but it does argue for running the campaign with a filled-out Google Business Profile behind it.

The Tempe market
Interstate 10 runs near Tempe's western edge and Loop 101 follows its eastern border. A campaign can be built by corridor and ZIP code, not one radius, so a plumber who will drive to Chandler does not pay for clicks in north Phoenix.
The offer on the landing page matters as much as the map. Tempe's median home was built in 1984, so much of the housing is old enough for repair and replacement to be separate offers; two landing pages, one per intent, keep the ad copy matched to the search and the tracking readable.

Trades in Maricopa County
Plumbing and HVAC is the biggest trade group in Maricopa County, with 1,604 contractors, and its two searches sit at opposite ends of the click-cost table: $56.43 for a plumber and $11.33 for HVAC repair. That gap is the bidding strategy. The plumbing campaign needs a tight list of negative keywords and a landing page that earns the click, while the HVAC campaign can test more broadly.
Pest control is a different bet. Maricopa County has 369 pest control companies, and the search costs $49.45 a click, so the campaign should be precise about the treatments you sell and the towns you cover. If it runs broad, some of that money buys product shoppers, not jobs.

The first campaigns
The account goes live only after every call and form can be traced to the keyword that paid for it.
Current campaigns, wasted search terms and whatever already converts get reviewed before anything is changed.
Call tracking and GA4 conversion tags carry the keyword, the ad and the form into one report, so a call is never a mystery number.
Drain cleaning, panel upgrades or whatever you want more of gets its own campaign, landing page and budget.
Bids and search terms get adjusted daily through the first 30 days and weekly after that, against the Tempe budget.
What every Google Ads account includes
The same eight parts go into every Google Ads account, wherever the business is.
Proof
The numbers on the card come from three pieces of work Lithium did for Sarkinen Plumbing, a Portland-area plumbing contractor: a new website, SEO and Google Ads. Chris Martin of Mt. Hood Pro Painting supplies the quote.

“Ever since we've used Lithium Marketing, our phone has been ringing off the hook and we can hardly keep up with the leads we get from Google, Facebook or through our website. Most of our leads other than referrals are through Google and it's all because of Lithium Marketing.”

Enough to buy calls at a price your jobs can cover. Start from your trade's click cost, which the table above lists, and the value of one booked job, then set a monthly ad budget you can hold for three months while tracking proves the cost per lead.
Expect the first calls inside the first week of a tracked campaign. What happens after that is the real work: removing the search terms that never become jobs and putting that money behind the terms that do.
You can stop with 30 days' notice once the first six months are done. The first term is six months, then the agreement rolls month to month. Management and ad spend stay on separate lines.
It depends where your customers look. Meta ads on Facebook and Instagram and Microsoft Ads are both on the table, and either can make sense when a trade's Google clicks get expensive. The usual order is to prove cost per lead on Google, then test a second channel on a small budget.
Two records answer that each month: the campaign report lists calls and forms by keyword, and your team's notes say which of those became work. Put them side by side and the campaigns that book jobs separate from the ones that only collect clicks.
