Paid search basics

What PPC management looks like for a San Antonio trade

At Lithium Marketing, PPC management for San Antonio contractors starts with what a click costs in your trade. Clicks here are not cheap: the average for “hvac repair san antonio” is $74.99, and for “garage door repair san antonio” it is $57.74. At those prices every call has to be traced to the keyword and ad behind it, or there is no telling which part of the budget is working.

“Plumber san antonio” is close behind at $55.69 a click. So we split campaigns by job, give each one a landing page with the phone number on top and go through the search terms every week, cutting the ones that bring clicks but no calls.

Weather and budget

Timing San Antonio ad spend to the heat and the rain

July and August tie as San Antonio’s warmest months, with an average high of 95 °F. If your AC repair calls climb when the heat peaks, plan a bigger daily budget for those weeks and have a same-day AC landing page live before the first hot stretch.

May, June and October see quite a bit of rain, and the city sits among the most flood-prone regions in North America. If roof leaks and water damage calls follow those months for you, set those campaigns to scale up as the rain arrives and pull back when it passes; your tracked calls will show whether the pattern holds for your business.

Bidding by trade

Where San Antonio trades should push their bids

HVAC and plumbing searches sit near the top of the click-price table, so those budgets go furthest when each ad names the exact job searched (AC repair, a water heater, a slab leak) and lands on a page about that job with the phone number on top.

Bexar County has 109 painting contractors and 106 excavation and site preparation contractors, and neither trade has a search in the table. Their campaigns start from the jobs they sell, such as exterior repaints, cabinet refinishing, lot clearing or driveway prep, and the first month of tracked calls shows which of those keywords pay.

The first month

How we take over a San Antonio Google Ads account

Your money follows booked calls, which means the tracking has to work before anything else does.

1

Start from your own numbers

We read your existing account or your call log, find the jobs that pay best and set a starting budget around them.

2

A tracking number per campaign

Calls ring through a number tied to the campaign that produced them, and GA4 conversion tags record every form, so the monthly report can show cost per lead campaign by campaign.

3

Build campaigns around jobs

AC repair, water heaters and roof leaks each get their own ad group, ads that name the job and a landing page built for it.

4

Check daily, then weekly

For the first month we review bids, search terms and ad hours every day; after that, weekly, moving money toward the campaigns whose calls turn into jobs.

What every Google Ads account includes

The same eight parts go into every Google Ads account, wherever the business is.

“Ever since we've used Lithium Marketing, our phone has been ringing off the hook and we can hardly keep up with the leads we get from Google, Facebook or through our website. Most of our leads other than referrals are through Google and it's all because of Lithium Marketing.”

What ad budget makes sense for my trade in San Antonio?

Typical ad spend runs $2,000–$5,000 a month, and where you land depends on your trade’s click price. HVAC repair clicks average $74.99 here and landscaping clicks $7.47, so an HVAC company needs a bigger budget and a sharper landing page to get the same number of calls. Our management fee is separate from that spend.

How much of my budget goes to clicks that never call?

Some of it always will, because Google charges for the click whether or not the visitor picks up the phone. We keep that share down with negative keywords that block searches unlikely to become work, such as DIY and job-seeker terms, and with call tracking that shows which campaigns waste the most, so their budget can move to the ones producing calls.

What does the management fee cover, and when does it rise?

From $500 a month in management, plus ad spend, the fee covers setup, tracking, campaign builds and ongoing tuning for a smaller account. Three things raise it: a bigger ad budget, more channels such as Microsoft or Meta, and landing pages we design for you. You see the number and sign off on it before any campaign starts.

Can you run Facebook, Instagram or Microsoft ads too?

Yes. Besides Google, we manage Microsoft Ads plus Meta campaigns on Facebook and Instagram. Google usually comes first because people there are searching for the job; a second channel gets added when the Google numbers are solid and there is budget left to test.

What happens if a campaign isn’t bringing in calls?

We change it or stop it. Each campaign is judged on cost per lead, and one that runs high after a fair test gets new keywords, new ads or a new landing page. If it still doesn’t pay, its budget moves to a campaign that does.
