Philadelphia web design, plainly

A Philadelphia website built for older housing

Lithium Marketing builds WordPress websites for Philadelphia contractors and home service companies, designed so a visitor can see your work and reach you in one tap. The median home in Philadelphia dates to 1949. If a customer’s house is that old, the first thing worth showing them is a job you finished on one like it.

For much of Philadelphia’s history, the typical home has been the row house. If row houses make up a share of your jobs, give them their own gallery and service copy, so a row house owner finds that work without digging through everything else.

Philadelphia’s housing stock

Why a Philadelphia site should lead with older-home work

Philadelphia’s housing leans old, with 83.3% of the city’s homes built before 1980 and much of the housing dating to the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. For a contractor’s website, that means a gallery full of repair, restoration and upgrade work on older houses, each job with a before photo, an after photo and two lines on what you found.

Northern Liberties and Society Hill are two neighborhoods that have been rehabilitated. If renovation is your work, give each project type its own page with photos, scope and timeline, and name the neighborhood, so a homeowner there sees work you’ve done nearby.

Trades and their websites

What different Philadelphia trades need from a website

Philadelphia County counts 522 residential remodelers and only 97 new home builders. With that many remodelers in one county, a remodeling site has to make a visitor stop and look: one project per page, the neighborhood and house type named, and an estimate form that asks about scope, budget and start date.

The county’s 63 roofing contractors and 29 pest control companies sell work a customer may never see up close. Their sites need photos from the roof or the crawlspace, a plain description of each method and what each job includes, such as any warranty or follow-up visit you offer.

How the build runs

From kickoff to launch on a Philadelphia website

Your photos and your words drive the design, and you see every page before launch.

1

Sort your photos by job type

You send photos from finished jobs, the parts of the city you cover and the work you want more of, and we group them into galleries.

2

Lay out the pages

You approve a page plan and phone-first designs that put your number, service area and best project photos where a visitor looks first.

3

Build and test on WordPress

We build with schema, fast hosting and call tracking set up, then try every form and button on several phones before you review the finished site.

4

Launch with redirects in place

Every old URL with traffic or links points to its new page, so Google can connect the pages it already knows to the new site.

What every Lithium website includes

The same eight parts go into every website build, wherever the business is.

Robinson Restoration: a new website and SEO

Robinson Restoration, a restoration company, had Lithium build a new website and run its SEO, and the card shows the traffic and rankings that followed. Drake Snodgrass, owner of the garden center Drake’s 7 Dees, adds his own words about his site redesign and search results.

Around Philadelphia

Check a neighbor’s housing before you build its page

Housing differs from town to town, so look at the neighbors before you build pages for them. Each web design page below lists that city’s home ages and search counts, including the three Delaware cities, and the state page covers the rest of Pennsylvania.

FAQ

Philadelphia website questions before you commit

Still curious?

Call (503) 766-5964 or email [email protected].

Is $5,000 the price for every contractor site?

It’s the typical price, and about 90% of Lithium’s website builds come in at that figure. The size of the site is what moves it: a Philadelphia remodeler who wants a separate gallery for every kind of renovation it does across the city needs far more pages than usual, and that larger build is quoted before you commit to anything.

Do I own the site, or am I renting it from you?

You own it from day one. We set up the domain, hosting and WordPress install in your name, and the copy and photos are yours as well. If you leave Lithium someday, you keep all of it, with nothing to buy back.

How long does a website build take?

Six to nine weeks from kickoff to launch for most builds. The pace depends mostly on how quickly photos and approvals come back, so we set the stage dates at kickoff and you always know what’s due next.

Do you write the words on the site?

Yes. We write every page from an interview with you, your service list and your photos, then you review and approve each one before launch. If your customers use a particular name for a job, tell us and we’ll use it.

Who keeps the site updated after launch?

Your staff, Lithium or both. Each project gallery is set up so adding a finished job means uploading the photos, naming the neighborhood and writing a sentence about the work, and a private video tour of your new site shows them how. If you’d sooner not, Lithium’s hosting and maintenance plan is an optional $99 a month, with hosting, daily backups, software and security updates and basic changes included.
